Expect rain, be ready for sun!

For added warmth consider a latex or silicone swim cap. They:
* substantially reduce heat loss from evaporative cooling;
* are small/easy to store: folds small and fits in pocket;
* are thin: fits under helmet;
* are cheap: latex < $4 but doesn't last as long; * (or) can last: silicone $5 - $13 (web). Bring Water-Proof Sun Block
You will be on, and in, the water a lot. If you use contacts, or have sensitive eyes, choose a sunblock that won't sting your eyes as it washes down from your forehead.

A place to stop for lunch/snack, salads, fish, natural foods, etc.

More Directions
Good maps and aerial photos are on the Baha'i's of Makah Reservation web site.

Camping
  • Cost. Last year's Hobuck Beach web site showed $15 per night and $5 per additional vehicle but this year accessing their web site is problematic (check with this link).
  • Showers. Last season there were two showers for the entire campground but solar showers work great (when the sun is out).
  • Bring Insect repellent. The mosquito problem can be insignificant to noticeable depending on the wind and weather. Ticks are possible.
Makah Nation
  • Use Permit. The Makah Nation has required visitor vehicles to have use $10 annual permits. As of this posting, information on permits is available online at http://www.makah.com/permits.htm, however the link from the Makah home page is no longer posted. The permits have been available at the Makah Tribal Council, Makah marina, Big Salmon Fishing Resort, Washburn's General Store, Makah Museum and the Makah Mini Mart.
  • Makah Bay Offshore Wave Energy Pilot Project.
Marine Weather Sites
Another Good Link
  • Shoreline aerial photos for all of Washington State are on the Dept. of Ecology's Shoreline web site (this appears to be where the Baha'is got the photos for their site). Check out their photos of Cape Flattery. They also link to other good sites.
